Why is there a new league?

The Lovell Group decided not to renew an ice contract with the current owner of the league. This left our league in a vulnerable position. Therefore, multiple legacy players formed a committee and signed a new ice agreement with Lovell, to ensure the longevity and existence of our league. From this, The South Shore Classics League was established.

I’ve seen ‘By Players – For Players’ referenced several times on the website. What does that mean?

The SSCHL was formed by players that most of you skate with and/or against each week. The vision of this league is to return ownership and control of the league back to its members. The SSCHL is a not-for-profit organization, therefore all of the fees paid by our members are invested directly back into the league for ongoing improvement, season after season.

What is the cost for the season?

The cost for the Fall 2024 season will be $389, which includes a uniform if you register and pay by 7/8.

Are the uniforms really free?

If you register and pay for the Fall 2024 season by 7/8, your uniform fee will be covered by the league. After the 7/8 deadline, the cost for uniforms will be $85.

What happens if I register after 7/8?

Don’t let this happen – REGISTER NOW!

Will the Classics teams have logos on their shirts?

Yes, each of the Classics teams will now have shirts with their team logos on them. We’re proud of all of the new team logos and want each team to have its own identity. Check out the full lineup of team logos by division here.

How will uniform numbers work?

Every player in both the Masters and Classics division will be able to choose their own numbers during the registration process. You will be prompted to choose both a primary and secondary number on the registration form. If there is a conflict with numbers, players should work with their team captain to decide who gets which number.

Will there still be 3-digit jersey numbers?

No, in fact the GameSheet app will not allow for 3-digit numbers. The registration form also restricts 3-digit numbers from being entered/requested.

Are the new uniforms reversible?

Yes, both the new shirts and socks will be reversible. This should eliminate players showing up with the incorrect shirts or socks.

Will uniforms be enforced?

Yes, the SSCHL is considered a premier league. The correct home/away uniforms must be worn each week, along with black helmets, pants, and gloves. Failure to do so could result in a minor penalty at the beginning of the game.

How many players will be on each team?

There will be 16 players per team, with a maximum of 17 if there are unique situations, such as players returning from a season-ending injury who were replaced by another player.

How many games are there in a season?

The season structure will remain the same. There will be 14 regular season games and 2 weeks of playoff games for a total of 16 games.

Has the overtime changed?

Yes, overtime will now be a three-minute stop-time 3 on 3 period, followed by a 5-man shootout. If the score remains tied after the shootout, the game will end in a tie.

I’ve seen GameSheet Stats referenced on the website. What does that mean?

The SSCHL has implemented this great new stats solution for the Fall 2024 season. The GameSheet application replaces traditional timekeeper score sheets with iPads that use the GameSheet app. The app connects directly to an online database which allows for real-time updates of scores and stats to the SSCHL website. The league management team will have access to easily update goals and assists, ensuring much more accurate stats than what we currently have. Take a look on the SSCHL Stats page for more information.

There are rumors of a third division, can you provide some insight?

The SSCHL League Management understands that we have some players who are either aging out of the league, or simply want a slower pace of hockey. Although this won’t occur in the Fall 2024 timeframe, we are looking at a solution for either the Winter or Fall 2025 seasons. What this new division/hour will look like and consist of is still being evaluated, but we are actively working on a solution. If you are in the third division demographic and would like to share your thoughts or ideas, please feel free to contact Bill Sawtelle as the Director of Division Operations, or contact League Management here.

Is there a SSCHL Rules & Regulations document?

Yes, the SSCHL Rule & Regulations can be found here.
